Enjoyed taking the Amsterdam Canal cruise

I liked visiting the Rijksmuseum and taking the Amsterdam Canal Cruise. There is so much to see and discover in this city. For example, the audio guide on the boat explained why Amsterdam canal houses are so narrow - they were taxed based on the width of the house facing the canal! I've been to Amsterdam many times, and I hope to come again because I always learn something new.

Impressive model ships at the Rijksmuseum

I have a passion for building small-scale model ships, and I've passed it on to my son. So we really had a blast visiting the Rijksmuseum, as they have a huge collection of ship models. We especially enjoyed looking at the William Rex, which is quite impressive. Such attention to details, such craftsmanship - it is amazing! We also enjoyed the Amsterdam Canal Cruise.

RIJKSMUSEUM AND THE ART OF THE DUTCH GOLDEN AGE

Rijksmuseum ticket and Canal Cruise allow you to visit the famous museum that holds priceless paintings from the Dutch Golden Age. Holland was enormously prosperous during the 17th century, and many of its merchants wanted to show off their wealth. They did so by commissioning their portraits from the most influential Dutch masters of that era. Works of art made by Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Jan Steen are all on display here. This includes the well-known „Night Watch", „Merry Family", and „The Milkmaid“! Also, you will have a chance to see the self-portrait of Vincent Van Gogh, which is on display in room 1.18. Use this entry ticket to explore and learn more about Dutch history and the art of that fascinating period!

PAINTINGS OF 17th CENTURY DUTCH MASTERS

While exploring the Rijksmuseum, you'll be able to delve deeper into the remarkable paintings of Dutch Masters. The simplicity and realism of Johannes Vermeer's paintings show everyday scenes from 17th-century Holland. Looking at his masterpieces, „The Little Street“ or „The Milkmaid “, you'll feel as if you are looking at a photograph from hundreds of years before the invention of the camera. A similar can be said of Jan Steen's paintings, which often focus on lively themes. The best example is perhaps „The Merry Family“, rich with movement and playfulness, a slice of the life of ordinary people. As you walk through the corridors and galleries of the Rijksmuseum, you will discover more than just Dutch works of art. Within its halls, there is also Asian art on display. This mostly comes from China, Japan, and especially Indonesia, reflecting the Netherland's colonial history.

CANALS OF AMSTERDAM

Amsterdam's canals are the city's lifeblood, with more than 165 canals spanning 75 kilometers. As you glide through the canals, you'll see many historic 400-year-old canal houses with narrow facades and gabled roofs. Don't be surprised to see swans and ducks peacefully moving through the water, making the whole sight seem idyllic and picturesque. Some of the landmarks that you'll pass by have a grim backstory; one such building is the Anne Frank House. You will learn more about it and the darker chapters of Dutch history from the audio guide. Did you know that the Canals of Amsterdam are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site? Prisengracht, Herengracht, Keizersgracht, and Singel are the major ones and serve as waterway avenues. During the Amsterdam Canal Cruise, you will discover their many stories, legends, and secrets.
