Seeing original Van Gogh Paintings was a dream coming true!

I'm a bit of an art nerd, and I paint a bit on my own. So, visiting the museum of my favorite painter was a dream come true. Just standing there in front of the famous paintings of Vincent van Gogh was an incredible feeling for me, especially „The Sunflowers“ and „Almond Blossom". I got so hypnotized by its beauty that I lost track of time. Amsterdam canal cruise was so relaxing, but a visit to the Van Gogh Museum will stay with me forever!

Canal cruise and Van Gogh Museum for entire family

As parents of three children, we have to look for activities that we can enjoy together. It's not always easy, and that's one more reason I would recommend the Van Gogh Museum ticket and Canal cruise to families. While the kids were on a treasure hunt at the museum, my wife and I saw world-famous paintings at a slow pace. Afterwards we went on the Amsterdam Canal Cruise, which had an audio story just for kids. They were engaged and had lots of questions later. We enjoyed our time together, and all of us have fond memories of that day!

A MUSEUM DEDICATED TO VAN GOGH LIFE AND HIS WORK

The Van Gogh Museum features the world's largest collection of Van Gogh's paintings, numbering over 200. During your visit, you will learn about the painter's turbulent life and his struggle with mental health. Van Gogh's life influenced his work, as he saw painting as a sort of therapy. The Van Gogh Museum also features 500 drawings as well as 700 letters. The most famous are those to his brother Theo, and they are all on display as a part of the permanent exhibition. There are also temporary exhibitions throughout the year, which are also covered by your Van Gogh Museum ticket! The museum features interactive displays, digital installations, and various activities for kids, such as treasure hunts. Take your time and explore the genius work of Vincent van Gogh!

MOST FAMOUS VAN GOGH PAINTINGS

It's enough to say sunflowers, and most of us immediately picture a Van Gogh painting in our minds. His style is instantly recognizable even by those who are not interested in art! One perhaps surprising thing you will learn during your visit to the Van Gogh Museum is the fact that he started seriously painting at the age of 30. During his short and meteoric career, he produced more than 2100 paintings; most of them were made during the last two years of Van Gogh's life. As you stroll through the Van Gogh Museum, you will have a chance to see his world-famous paintings up close. These include „The Potato Eaters", "Sunflowers", “Almond Blossom", “Wheatfield with Crows", “Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat“, and hundreds more!

GRACHTENGORDEL - AMSTERDAM CANAL DISTRICT

After visiting the Van Gogh Museum, another fun activity awaits you - the Amsterdam Canal Cruise! You'll be sailing through the heart of the city on the Prinsengracht, Herengracht, Keizersgracht, and Singelgracht canals. Surrounded by a lively and modern city, you'll have the pleasure of seeing the contrast between old and new. Did you know these canals were dug in the 17th century? Amsterdam was a bustling commercial hub at that time, with incredible building projects popping up everywhere. During the cruise, you will pass by the Golden Bend, a prestigious neighborhood where Amsterdam's wealthiest citizens lived. You will also pass by the Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank House, and Negen Straatjes. To help you understand the history of each landmark, take advantage of the audio guide. Illuminating audio commentary is available in 21 languages, with a special „Kid Cruise“ audio story for children!

Which Van Gogh paintings portray Amsterdam Canals?

Vincent van Gogh lived in Amsterdam for only one year when, as a young man, he was preparing for an exam to study theology. He did not produce notable paintings during that time, but later he did return on a number of occasions and painted two: „View of Amsterdam from Central Station“ and „The De Ruijterkade in Amsterdam". Both are currently held in a private collection, but you can search them online. As with any of Van Gogh's paintings, they reflect his desire to uncover the essence of Amsterdam, namely, its canals!
