Vincent van Gogh lived in Amsterdam for only one year when, as a young man, he was preparing for an exam to study theology. He did not produce notable paintings during that time, but later he did return on a number of occasions and painted two: „View of Amsterdam from Central Station“ and „The De Ruijterkade in Amsterdam".
